Hey there! I'm Crow!, the guy who made the video linked to above. Unfortunately, I have to report that the latest versions of Windows 10 actually forbid the use of the application compatibility toolkit. (Like, the program totally could work, but Windows 10 specifically seeks it out and prevents it from running.) Also, the website that the Tribes: Ascend guys were using to distribute Earthsiege 2's CD is now defunct, though since the game was available for free and isn't available anywhere for pay, you can probably feel comfortable getting it from some other site. You can try a compatibility patch hosted by a website run by a friend of mine at www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/Patches-Updates-Games/MetaltechUpdates.htmlI will say, though, I wasn't able to get the patch to run; I assume it expects you to run the installation from the CD first so it can identify where the game is located. As for me, I just run the game on my Windoes XP computer.

Hi Crow ! I put the compat toolkit on my google drive drive.google.com/file/d/1HdQWZ4mLOtRY8z8oiHErJ5uqNrI_fIpK/viewi'm running win10- home version. works with no issues. ( I'm not certainly not disputing what you said - its windows 10 right) I must say that video really did the trick! The only part that doesn't work is the original wiki windows style help files thats a part of the game. Its that old win95 Help menus if you can remember what that looked like. There were descriptions of the hercs and weapons. It was neat. win rip version of the game right here drive.google.com/file/d/1NpdbuQdDqSJEwUZcKFBQODlKRvGykhRU/viewBut if anyone needs a burn disc, just PM me here I will send a copy out free of charge. crow heres invite to Earthsiege 2 discord discord.gg/SRcQtuV

The compat toolkit was superceded by the Windows ADK (application kit and deployment kit). I managed to install the compat toolkit from this and successfully ran earthsiege 2 on my windows 10 laptop. I followed instructions I saw in a youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaDVS1eyGPs ) to get most of the game running but there was no music. To fix the music I used github.com/maximilien-noal/ogg-winmm/ . First I went to released and got a copy of the replacement winmm.dll. (I've read you can use compat toolkit to allow this to be replaced so the following may not be necessary) I did a hexedit of DBSIM.EXE (back this file up in case you screw up). Search for the text "WINMM". You should see it next to DDRAW.dll and MSVFW32.DLL. change the second M to X so it says WINMX. Then put your replacement winmm.dll as winmx.dll in the earthsiege 2 directory. From there you can follow the instructions at the github link. (Make a music folder and put the soundtrack in it in ogg format with the correct filenames). I used oggmm because gamepad wouldn't work with _inmm maybe it works for some people? Anyways I added starsiege as a 3rd party game into steam and then used the controller remapping in steam to let me use my ps4 controller's gyro for mouse and full key mapping including right stick for turret movement and left stick for movement. It ran like a champ and I managed to play through the campaign in full with original music from my cd and full gamepad support.

It does run like a champ, I just had to patch dosbox and make my own build so it could use more buttons (and the extra axis). In fact I played through es1 before figuring out how to get es2 to run.

Yeah you should patch it to use extra buttons and axis. Dos didn't support as many buttons as modern controllers today so the game can't use them however dosbox can. You can press ctrl-f1 to get to the mapper when its running. Map your controllers extra buttons to keyboard buttons. If you have a ps4 controller, find a way to turn its gyro into a mouse and allocate one of the js buttons to left click. This lets you use the map and give radio commands without needing to reach for a mouse. (I did this on es2 but not es1 because I didn't know at the time that steam wasn't mapping the controller unless I forced it on.) Thinking about it now, I would map the right stick to turret up, down, left, right. Remap the fire button to the right trigger (so you can leave your thumb on the stick while you fire) Then I would map the dpad to the different f-key functions you use. I always had mine set to self unit damage, radar, communication, target enemy damage. I think I had the left trigger mapped to target, then the lb and rb buttons I had one for link weapons and one for radar mode(passive or active). Anything needing the alt-button I couldn't figure out how to do without the mouse. So axis mouse is probably the best then just map a button for left click. I got the dosbox patch from here: www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=27452Definitely would help to have a button to toggle autotarget like es2 had, I guess it made me better at aiming without it.

Also make sure to tell you units to fire at will or else they will walk around taking damage.
