A solution for Windows 7

I thought this might help some people install and play starsiege:

None of the tips on installing SS on windows 7 really helped me at all, it just continued crashing. I matched screen resolution, tried the win2k installer for the (downloaded) discs, tried the Starsiege Complete (that you can find on this site), added the NoCd patch. Basically tried everything.

One thing finally worked for me though. All I did was mount my (downloaded) buddy disc and clicked "autorun", and proceeded to install the game like folks did back in the day, and voila! It worked.
Only problem was the strange colors of the game, and a problem making the game fullscreen, but that was fixed with changing the "options" full screen to opengl instead of software (to fix the colors). Don't remember the fix for fullscreen but it was pretty simple (will find on this board).

I hope this helps anyone that's tried everything short of installing a win98 OS. Good Luck

If one follows the instructions at w.tarazedi.com/Starsiege for 7 they are using the same instructions as Rock's post. To the best of my knowledge this is the only guide that neatly lists the entire process from beginning to end on any operating system in a single location.

Whether someone follows this or any other guide (assuming they follow the instructions as written, which is often not the case) does not necessarily mean they will not crash, only that the odds are minimized. Starsiege responds differently on different systems or even on the same system with the same OS reinstalled on it, and a guide that works perfectly for one person may not work at all for someone else with a similar setup.

The IRC server ( w.tarazedi.com/IRC ) has people in it every day that very often help people through getting set up and fixed. But we've seen many cases where Starsiege just doesn't want to play nice--and then, just as likely, will start working flawlessly on some random setting change that would crash other people.
